Austrain wine seminars at London International Wine Fair 2012

25. April 2012

Austria's outstanding grape varieties and an in-depth look at the “Archetypes of Austrian Wines” will be featured in a series of wine tasting seminars at the London International Wine Fair 2012.

A daily seminar on the “Archetypes of Austrian Wines”, including Austria’s prized indigenous grape varieties and their typical origins will be held at this year’s LIWF in May at the spacious Austrian stand I50 and J50. The seminars will be presented by Austrian wine specialist Jason Turner, who will present tutored tastings of the wines and wine regions of Austria. These shall be held in the special tasting area amongst the 29 Austrian wineries and sparkling producers presenting their wines at the fair.

The seminars will highlight all indigenous grape varieties, such as the black grapes Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Sankt Laurent, alongside Austria’s signature white wine variety Grüner Veltliner, and their typical origins. These seminars will be held daily at 11:00 a.m in a designated tasting area at the Austrian wine pavilion. In addition to the seminars, there will be themed Austrian wine tastings held daily at the Wine Bar of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board Stand, as well as a presentation featuring the renowned Austrian glass maker, Riedel on Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

The strong presence of Austrian wineries at this year’s LIWF, combined with the series of seminars, underscores the continued growing interest and success of Austrian wines in the international arena. These hand-crafted wines are sought after for their unique, food-friendly varieties and styles, and come from some of the world’s most distinctive terroirs. Producers from across Austria’s wine-growing regions will be personally represented at the LIWF – from the Wachau, Kremstal and Kamptal in the Danube Valley to Burgenland in the east and Steiermark (Styria) to the south.
