M&S launches new concept accessories department
with KOLARZ ® Lights

30. September 2013

KOLARZ ™, the leading Austrian company has just installed stunning new contemporary lights in M&S’s newly designed premium accessory departments which it has just launched at three test sites. Feedback on the new space has been phenomenal with trading way above expectations.

Chris Dewar Dixon, interior and lighting designer, chose to work with KOLARZ on the project because he had seen the stunning crystal lights they had recently installed in the jewellery and lingerie departments in most John Lewis stores across the UK.

Chris worked with KOLARZ to ensure that his cool, elegant and modern design reflected and enhanced the quality of the products on display. The circular light, which hangs in the centre of the premium shoe section of the accessory department is made from rectangular shaped glass that are suspended from champagne coloured covered metal work. The glass has been routed with thin lines etched on the inside to make piece look sophisticated, subtle and was not glary.

The project ran smoothly and was delivered on budget and on time, the biggest issue was making the fitting lightweight enough to make sure it fit in to different locations, old shops, different ceilings, some suspended, some not and that the lights complied with M&S’s building standards and requirements.

Kristina Griffith of KOLARZ™ UK says, “We are absolutely delighted with this lighting feature and are proud to have been chosen for this prestigious project. These are exciting times for us at KOLARZ™, this is our second big retail installation this year working with the top two UK high street retailers. The difference in design for the John Lewis and M&S lights shows that KOLARZ™ can be versatile and innovative and that we are able to work closely with the clients and designers to interpret their vision for their brand and store interiors”.
