  • Strong branding helps Wolford post record figures

    28. August 2008 Austrian luxury hosiery and lingerie company Wolford posted record sales up 11.3% to EUR 157.7 million (£124.7m) for the year to 30 April. Pre-tax earnings rocketed 47.5% to EUR 11.3m (£8.9m). Wolford attributes its good performance to its strong brand and its retail expansion.

    26. August 2008 Austrian crystal jewellery specialist Swarovski has increased its sales by 25 per cent in the first half of 2008, attributed by the company to its aggressive expansion programme.

    14. August 2008 National Air Traffic Services (NATS) has chosen the Austrian based high tech company Frequentis as their preferred supplier for the Electronic Flight Data in NATS centres in Scotland and the Terminal Control Centre in Swanwick.

    8. August 2008 Austrian dairy firm NÖM is building a 20-acre industrial dairy in Telford. Set to open in December 2008, the new £40m plant in Telford represents one of the largest Austrian investments in the UK and will strengthen NÖM’s position as one of Europe’s leading dairies.

June 2008 Team Glad Winners, from Southampton, flew to first place in the Red Bull Flugtag in London’s Hyde Park, topping the leaderboard with an amazing 57 points. 80,000 excited spectators watched the home-made, 60kg ‘CG1’ machine, constructed from wood and fibreglass, fly over 17.5 metres to victory, piloted by Tom Bryer.
