No sign of the crisis - quite the opposite: winter tourism in Austria was surprisingly popular even in the last season.

Even with the turbulent economic backdrop posing challenges worldwide, Austria has lost none of its pull as a tourism destination. The latest tourism figures on the winter season 2009/10 are further proof of this. This was in fact the third best winter of all time for the Austrian tourism industry.

From November 2009 to April 2010 Austria managed to achieve a similar number of overnight stays to the comparative period 2008/2009, with 62.67m overnights (-0.4%). Of these, 47.83m overnights were from foreign guests (-1.1%) and 14.84m from Austrian holidaymakers (+2.1%). The average length of stay slipped back slightly once again and now stands at 4.1 nights.

Most overnight stays from foreign guests came from Germany, Netherlands, Italy, United Kingdom, Czech Republic and Hungary. There was an impressive increase of 12.6% in overnights from Russian guests.
