Telekom Austria Group buys 70% shares of the Belarusian mobile operator MDC for 1 mlrd USD

The Austrian "Telekom Austria Group" signed early in the morning on the 3 rd of October a contract on purchasing 70% of shares of the foreign private company “Mobile Digital Communication” (MDC, trade marks Velcom, Privet) for 702 mio. EUR (1 mlrd USD).

According to the Austrian “Die Presse”, the Russian Vympelcom was not considered as serious pretender by the owners of MDC – Cypriot "SB-Telecom".

The Austrian periodical also reports that in three years "Telekom Austria " plans to take over 100% of MDC shares. In sum the transaction will cost 1,05 mrld EUR for the Austrian side.

Austrian businessman Martin Schlaff, who has assets in "SB-Telecom" acted as intermediary in this transaction. He also assisted in purchasing mobile operators in Bulgaria and Serbia by Austrian companies.
