Belarus-Austria Commission for Trade-Economic Cooperation to meet in April

The eighth session of the Belarusian-Austrian Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation will take place in Austria (the towns of Vienna and Klagenfurt ) on April 22-24.

The Belarusian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Gaisenok will include specialists of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, the energy efficiency department of the State Standardization Committee, Belvneshekonombank, the Minsk City Council and the free economic zone Grodnoinvest, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus. The Austrian delegation lead by the general director for the foreign economic links of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Labour of the Austrian Republic will embrace representatives of the Austrian ministries, agencies and large companies interested in developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Belarusian partners.

The agenda of the meeting includes the consideration of the situation and perspectives of the bilateral trade development, cooperation in the credit-investment area, interaction in alternative energy, regional collaboration, other issues. The Belarusian delegation will get familiar with the economic potential of the federal land of Carinthia , visit several objects on the production of electric and heat power with the use of alternative resources and local fuels.

In 2007, the trade between Belarus and Austria exceeded $200 million. The Belarusian exports to Austria increased by 35.1% to reach $29.7 million, import grew 70.5% and made up $175.9 million. The trade jumped by 64.3% up to $205.6 million.

Belarus mainly exports ferrous metals, timber, chemical products and glass fiber to Austria .
