Opening of the Home for the Disabled “Desa Santan” in Banda Aceh 20. August 2007

Hilfswerk Austria supports the reconstruction of Aceh

On May 30th 2007 the opening of "Desa Santan", a home and school for children with disabilities, was celebrated. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor of Aceh, H.E. Muhammad Nazar, the Regent of Aceh Besar, and other representatives of the region and international organizations.

The home for the disabled was built with funds from "We Build Life" initiative and the City of Vienna, Austria, by Hilfswerk Austria, an Austrian NGO.

“Desa Santan” comprises accomodation for 30 children, a day centre, school and vocational training center for 90 children, a library and a physical therapy room.

The center provides opportunities to children with physical and mental disabilities and is something entirely new to Aceh.
