Organised by Sustainable Energy Ireland, the Energy Show is Ireland’s most important and largest annual showcase for renewable energy solutions. At the Austrian Pavilion, the Austrian Trade Commissioner, Günther Sucher was delighted to guide the Minister For Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan and SEIs Brendan Halligan (Chairman) and Owen J. Lewis (CEO) through the stands.

It was full steam ahead for the exhibitors over the course of the two days. Austrian companies are internationally renowned for their top-of-the-range renewable energy systems, a fact reflected by the consistent stream of people queing up to learn more about the products on display. Pellet and wood heating technology represented by Biotech, ETA, Windhager and Sustainable Building Show Award winner Fröling, was a strong pull factor for the attending crowds and has been enormously boosted by the availability of grants through SEI’s Greener Homes scheme.
Essentials in housing insulation, the new buzzword in sensible energy preservation methods, were demonstrated by the solid timber frame windows solutions from Hrachowina and Isocell’s cellulose insulation and airtight systems. Also popular were the solar technologies from SolarFocus/Renewable Energy Systems, SunWin, HitSolar21 and Solkav. Exhibiting for the first time at the Energy show, the anaerobic digestion technology frontrunners Enbasys were so pleased with the interest generated at the show that they have decided to return to Ireland in June as part of the Austria Showcase on Waste Management Technology (click

This year’s internal ‘winner’ at the Austrian Pavilion in terms of attracting visitor numbers was probably Ochsner’s heat pump that has been developed specifically for cooler, moister climates. Considerable attention from the farming sector was directed towards Alpecon’s micro-hydro power plants, while Etherma’s decorative heat panels enthused homeowners and plumbing professionals. On the construction side of things, Thermaflex’s preinsulated pipes for heating and cooling and in particular Geolyth’s inorganic mineral foam for thermal insulation and fireproofing resonated strongly with arcitectural and engineering professions.
