Congress city vienna takes 2nd place worldwide

Austria's capital city, Vienna, has once again confirmed its standing as one of the world's most popular congress cities in 2014.

In the 2014 ranking of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Vienna took second place with 202 international congresses, thereby climbing one place against 2013. Paris (with 214) was at the top of the ranking. The following cities in the ranking were Madrid (200), Berlin (193), Barcelona (182), London (166), Singapore (142), Amsterdam (133), Istanbul (130) and Prague (118).

Congresses, corporate conferences and incentives are an important part of the Vienna tourism business. The exceptional congress infrastructure, the high service standards of the congress service industry and the city's multifaceted cultural scene have helped to make Vienna a top destination for international conferences.

In the ICCA's country rankings Austria takes 11th place, whereby around 70% of the total 287 congresses held in Austria  in 2014 took place in Vienna. The USA retained its top spot with 831 international congresses, followed by Germany (659) and Spain (578). The other countries among the top ten were Great Britain (543), France (533), Italy (452), Japan (337), China (332), the Netherlands (307) and Brazil (291).
