On 7th June 2008, when the whistle blows in Basel (Switzerland) for the start of the EURO 2008 Football Championships (Switzerland vs. Czech Republic), Austria will also be ready. The Austrian national team may not play their first match until one day later (against Croatia in Vienna), however, the whole of Austria - the population, companies and organisations - are ready for the deluge of fans coming for the world's third biggest sporting event. There's a great prevailing mood, excellent provision for guests, solid safety measures and the famous Austrian hospitality.
The 16 participating countries will fight for the most coveted football trophy in Europe in a total of 31 games, up to the final on 29th June (20:45 in Vienna). Around 8 billion viewers worldwide will also be following this major event on their TV screens. Austria's hotel industry is predicting around one million overnight stays from football fans.
