4. June 2010

Siemens Rolling Stock Pvt. Ltd. hast set up India's first dedicated bogie plant at Aurangabad

In summer 2008 the company SRSPL (Siemens Rolling Stock Private Ltd.), a 100 % subsidiary of Siemens Ltd. was founded to set up and operate the rolling stock factory under the management of Mr. A. Chaturvedi, CEO and Mr. B. Misra, CFO. Mr. Mathias Koch of Siemens Transportations Systems Graz, Austria, was appointed chairman of the company.

The rolling stock factory is meant to serve not only the Indian market but also projects in Asia and South America would not be easily accessible from Europe.

The factory was built within the allocated budget in a record time of merely 12 months and the necessary personnel were recruited and trained. This was accomplished, among other reasons, also due to the exemplary cooperation between the Graz team and the Indian colleagues.

In the middle of 2009 the first stage of completion of the bogie factory was celebrated with a small ceremony and the steel construction was started. Phase II (mechanical production, finishing and erection) was launched in 2010. The total investment for both phases amounted to EUR 17 million.

At present the bogie factory in India has around 50 employees. The factory is spread over an area of 120,000 sq.m. in the city of Aurangabad (an hour’s flight from Mumbai) close to the automobile factory of Skoda which manufactures the model “Octavia” for the Indian market.

There is currently some staff from Graz at the site to provide assistance and training to their Indian colleagues for all important activities. The main objective is to achieve full rated capacity of the factory and make it competitive for national and international projects. The first project for the Indian Railways is already under execution.

The most important aim for the near future is not only to build up a good clientele but also to develop a reliable network of sub-suppliers for SRSPL bogies in India.
