Vienna is Europe's most liveable city

3. October 2016

With an overall score of 97.4 out of 100 possible points, Vienna offers the second-highest quality of living in the world among 140 cities investigated by a recent study of the London Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

Thus, Austria's capital successfully defended the number-two position it also took last year. Coming in on top was the Australian city of Melbourne with 97.5 points, while the Canadian city of Vancouver took third behind Vienna with 97.3 points. The top three were followed by the cities of Toronto, Calgary, Adelaide, Perth, Auckland, Helsinki and Hamburg. Hence, Vienna is the most liveable city in Europe. Coming in bottom was the war-torn Syrian capital of Damascus. With its data and analyses, the Economist Intelligence Unit wants to provide companies with a basis for strategic decision-making to re-organise and/or deepen their business activities. The major criteria taken into account by the rankings include stability, public safety, healthcare, environment, infrastructure, education and culture.
