Pioneer for low-energy houses in Macedonia

By designing and supplying its innovative building solutions, REHAU contributed substantially to a low-energy house in Strumica in southeast Macedonia. This pioneer project leads the way to the future of the energy-efficient housing and construction sector in Macedonia.

REHAU — an expert in energy-efficiency for building materials — was one of the first Austrian companies to establish a separate entity in Macedonia, in 1999. In Strumica, they supplied Macedonia’s first low-energy building in 2011; an idea that has gained substantial importance in recent years.

This low-energy building serves as an office building. The investor built it as a location for his own company, at the same time it serves as a marketing tool for energy efficiency.

REHAU integrated many of its product solutions in this building, such as its window system GENEO, the geothermal heat exchanger AWADUKT Thermo as well as the surface heating systems and solar collectors RAUTITAN and RAUPIANO PLUS, respectively. The specific advantage of this pilot project building is its low energy consumption: it only needs 9 kWh per square meter, equalling energy efficiency class A+.

The feedback from the investor and owner is overwhelmingly positive due to the improved indoor environment and lower energy costs.
