A historic look for the new Hotel Moscow

Did you know that the Austrian company STRABAG, which is one of the leading construction companies in Europe, played a major role as general contractor and general planner during the construction of the Hotel Moscow, the most famous hotel in the city centre of the Russian capital?

In the historic district of the metropolis, STRABAG built a multifunctional complex comprising a new five-star hotel, offices, retail space and an underground parking garage in the immediate vicinity of the Kremlin, Red Square and the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

The hotel is one of the largest hotels in Moscow. It was originally built in the 1930’s based on the designs of the three Russian architects Savelyev, Stapran and Shtchusev. At the beginning of the new millennium, the Moscow city government decided to demolish the old hotel building. One of the main tasks was the reconstruction of the hotel modelled after the historic building.

As a general contractor and general planner, STRABAG provided a turnkey solution for the construction of the building façade, the roof, outdoor facilities as well as for all reinforced concrete structures. STRABAG also built an underground parking lot and a shopping gallery, as well as offices and apartments in line with the Shell & Core technique. The total area of the complex is 183,000 m2. The design was created by the Russian architecture office Mosprojekt.
