Austrian know-how for the largest tidal power plant in the world

ANDRITZ HYDRO supplied essential know-how and technology for the Sihwa hydroelectric power plant in South Korea. With a 260 MW capacity, it is the largest tidal power plant in the world.

ANDRITZ HYDRO is a global supplier of complete electromechanical equipment and services ("from water to wire") for hydropower plants. 170 years of experience made the Austrian company one of the world's market leaders in the field of hydraulic power generation. Other business areas of this company are pumps and turbo-generators.

The largest tidal power plant in the world was built at Sihwa Reservoir in South Korea. It includes ten 3-bladed Kaplan bulb turbines with an impeller-diameter of 7.5 meters and 26 MW capacity each. Since it began to operate in August 2011 its total output of 260 MW has been unrivalled throughout the world and outdone the longstanding record holder La Rance.

The ANDRITZ HYDRO group was fundamentally involved in this record-breaking project. The range of supply includes the design of the three-bladed bulb turbine generator units and accessories as well as the delivery of essential core components for the turbines, the generators and the automation system. In addition ANDRITZ HYDRO was responsible for the supervision of installation and initial operation.

Thanks to the long experience of ANDRITZ HYDRO, the largest tidal power plant in the world is operated with Austrian technology and know-how.
