Environmentally friendly heat made in Austria

In January 2013 international technology Group ANDRITZ signed a contract with ”Fortum Värme” for the supply of a circulating fluidized bed boiler for the new district heating plant ”Värtaverket KVV8” in Stockholm. The locally produced heat capacity will meet the needs of 190,000 households.

The contract for the new district heating plant ”Värtaverket KVV8” includes the delivery of a PowerFluid bed boiler with a heat utilization output of 330 MW, a flue gas cleaning system as well as the electrical and control systems. The facility, which will meet the rising demand of Stockholm’s district heating system, will replace fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum to a large extent by environmentally friendly biomass.

With the commissioning of the biomass boiler plant the share of renewable fuels that are used for district heating in Stockholm will increase from 45% to 70%. Globally this biomass boiler plant will be one of the largest of its kind, when starting operation late in 2015.

The ANDRITZ GROUP is an Austrian manufacturer of machines and industrial plants, with headquarters in Graz. ANDRITZ is a leading global supplier of plants, equipment and services for hydropower, the pulp and paper industry, metal processing and steel industry as well as municipal and industrial solid-liquid separation.

ANDRITZ Energy & Environment (AE&E) is part of this international group and designs, delivers and modernizes boiler and flue gas cleaning systems. The company has been one of the most important Austrian players on the Swedish market. Making an effort to provide independent local energy supplies, Sweden relies on the Austrian plant manufacturer. Municipal utilities commission AE&E with the supply and installation of highly efficient biomass boilers offering the lowest possible pollutant emission values.
