Austrian Sparkle at the Liffey

Swarovski crystals have always been in the limelight: on cinema screens, concert stages and red carpets.

Swarovski , the Austrian family-owned and run company, renowned for the quality and technological innovation of its precision-cut crystal, has a strong retail presence in Ireland with stores in Dundrum, Henry Street, Grafton Street, Blanchardstown & Cork – all showcasing the breadth of Swarovski’s collections, including jewellery, watches, accessories, homeware and figurines. Swarovski stores have become favourite haunts for all those who like a bit of sparkle in their lives.  Swarovski elements are widely used in Irish fashion design, the bridal industry, dressmaking and Irish dancing costumes.

Swarovski crystals have always been in the limelight: on cinema screens, concert stages and red carpets. Coco Chanel was inspired by the vibrant crystals and Marilyn Monroe dazzled everyone in a Swarovski crystal-studded dress when she sang her famous rendition of Happy Birthday to John F. Kennedy. The brand’s crystal adorns the stage of the Annual Oscar Awards and has celebrated big-screen success in Moulin Rouge, The Black Swan, and The Young Victoria.

In 1895, Daniel Swarovski, an inventor and visionary, moved to the village of Wattens in Austria with his new invention for cutting and polishing crystal jewellery stones. From this beginning, Swarovski has grown to become the world’s leading producer of precision-cut crystal for fashion jewellery, revolutionising the fashion world.

Today, Swarovski is still family-owned and run by 5th generation family members. It has a global reach with some 26,000 employees, a presence in over 170 countries and a turnover in 2015 of €2.6 billion.
