Finnish windows with Austrian assistance

The ‘glass brothers’, who are playing a major role in shaping the Finnish industry, rely on Austrian solutions, making Skaala & LiSEC a unique success story:

Skaala began life in 1956 as a one-man operation and today is Finland’s leading manufacturer of windows and doors with more than 500 employees across six production locations. Skaala’s company history and its rate of growth are impressive. Markku Hautanen: “We started our business with second-hand LiSEC machinery and over the years we have become a well-known company in the glass industry.”

Skaala’s directors bought a second-hand insulating glass line in 1989. The first second-hand LiSEC insulating glass line followed later, and in 1997 they invested in a complete system. Skaala made its biggest investment in 2015/2016 when LiSEC supplied the Finnish market leader with glass cutting and insulating glass lines and a LiSEC AEROFLAT tempering furnace. Skaala invested nearly EUR 10 million in total. This investment focused on highly automated manufacturing technology including processing and logistics, helping to modernise the entire production process.

The production capacity (of new and existing plant) is around 12,000 insulating glass units per week. The new investment means that any type of insulating glass unit or tempered glass can be produced. The entire plant is controlled and monitored by a brand-new LiSEC inventory control and production planning system.

Hannu Hautanen: “LiSEC has been a reliable partner for many years. They have provided us with a solution to our problems in every situation and have worked with us professionally at every stage.”  “When we were making our first big investment, LiSEC was the only company that offered all the machinery from a single source. On top of that, they also offer excellent software platforms. They really are unique on the market.”
