Austrian vibration-protection experts win major railway contract

Rail vehicle manufacturer Hitachi has chosen Austrian based specialist in vibration isolation, Getzner as an exclusive supplier for the British Department for Transport's "Intercity Express Programme".

The "Intercity Express Programme" (IEP) - a procurement plan - will see the British Department for Transport invest in new high-speed trains. Austrian experts Getzner will equip all trains manufactured for the programme with vibration-isolating floating floors until 2018.

The exclusive four-year contract to supply the highly effective materials that Getzner develops and manufactures in-house is worth approximately one million euros. The scale of the contract makes it one of the largest projects of its kind in the company's history.

Getzner, “the good vibrations company", is one of the leading specialists in vibration isolation and was established in 1969 as a subsidiary of Getzner, Mutter & Cie. The materials on which the solutions are based are Sylomer® and Sylodyn®, both of which were developed and manufactured in Buers, Austria. They are used in the rail, construction and industry sectors. The elastomers keep the transfer of vibrations to the interior fittings, the structure and the electronic components to a minimum, while reducing noise and wear as well as lowering maintenance costs at the same time.

Getzner markets its products throughout the world. Their export ratio is 86 %.
