Gloves from Thalheim a hot contender in Australia

The family-owned business ESKA from Thalheim in Austria has developed firefighting gloves especially for the Australian market, which differ significantly from European standards.

For more than 100 years, ESKA has specialised in the production of gloves, its mainstay being innovative firefighting gloves for the European market. Several years ago now, it successfully entered the Australian market. An Australian dealership was looking for high-quality, durable products to help it stand out from the competition.

“After a joint certification process, we won our first tender in 2008 to produce 10,000 gloves for New South Wales. Shortly afterwards, we managed to tap into the sales markets in Queensland and Melbourne. There are currently 15,000 firefighters employed in Australia,” reports Sales Director Raimund Sekyra. The company's development team faced considerable challenges here. Different materials had to be used in order to meet the higher demands in terms of heat and water resistance.

ESKA is currently the only glove manufacturer with three certifications for respiratory protection support and difficult firefighting conditions (USA, Australia and Europe). Since entering the Australian market, ESKA’s export ratio has increased to around 90%. It employs 27 members of staff.
