Safety and security are key issues in Austria’s economy and society. They have many facets:

- on the internet
- in sports
- and in leisure activities
In all those fields, standards - mainly European and international ones - ensure a high level of protection. And they support manufacturers and importers in complying with statutory safety provisions.
Austrian experts intensively co-operate in the preparation of these standards and contribute their know-how at the international level. The theme of safety runs like a red thread through almost all standards.
Standards serve consumers and businesses alike
Consumers are more and more discriminating. They expect that the products they buy are safe and do not harbour any unforeseeable risks. Standards help to meet these expectations and thereby provide security for companies. This is also true when it comes to safeguarding business success in the long term, for example by means of standardised risk management that helps them to identify potential risks early on and to initiate mitigation measures. In this field, Austrian standardisers accomplished pioneering work.
