Ropeway technology contributes to China’s tourism infrastructure

With the renewal of the cableway at the Great Wall’s most famous section in Badaling, world market leader Doppelmayr undertakes another signature project in China.

The Doppelmayr Group is the global technology and quality market leader in the ropeway industry. Having installed thousands of ropeway systems worldwide, there are 70 Doppelmayr cable car systems in China (e.g. in Taishan, Emeishan, Huashan, Huangshan, Huanglong, Zhangjiajie as well as in the ski resorts in Yabuli, Beidahu, Changabaishan, Genting Secret Garden and Songhuahu). Furthermore, they have built funicular railways in Lushan, Nanshan and Huangshan in China as well as the Peak Tramway and the Ocean Express in Hong Kong.

Doppelmayr entered the Chinese market in the 1990s. One of their most prestigious projects was the construction of the world’s highest cable car, providing access to the Dagu Glacier in Sichuan at 4,848m. Another important project was the ropeway in Hailuogou featuring the monocable lift with the longest free span of 1,200m.

Based on their sterling reputation, Doppelmayr was asked to conduct the renewal of the ropeway in Badaling, the Great Wall’s most visited section. Every year, several million people visit the site and come in contact with a piece of Austrian tradition. With this project, Doppelmayr makes a major contribution to the expansion of China’s tourism infrastructure.
