Off-Kilter Solution for Project Transport

In its role as member of the Project Cargo Network (PCN), the Air & Sea MLD department of the Austrian transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss (GW) received an urgent request: A ring-shaped replacement part for a hydroelectric power plant was required immediately in the American state of Washington.

The part needed to be transported from the manufacturer in Hungary to the port terminal in north Germany in a matter of days. Due to its dimensions of 3.6 x 3.6 x 1.2 meters, it required special authorization.

"In order to avoid unnecessary waiting time, we made a quick decision to use a slanted-load truck. Loading the freight at an angle significantly reduces its width, and that speeds up the authorization process," explains Franco Ravazzolo, Projects & Break Bulk Manager of Gebrüder Weiss.

The replacement part arrived in time for loading onto the ro-ro vessel in Bremerhaven, and was then received by a logistics partner in the USA for transportation on to the consignee.
