Innovation indicator 2011: Austria shows significant improvement
Good results for Austria's strategic offensive in research and development: the latest innovation ranking puts Austria in 8th place worldwide.
The latest “Innovation indicator 2011” gives Austria 8th place – the same position as the USA. Efforts to drive forward investment in research and development in the private and public sector are now bearing fruit: in the year 2000 Austria lagged behind in 16th place. Switzerland is uncontested at the top of the ranking followed by Singapore, Sweden and Germany.
The report underlines the fact that Austria “like perhaps no other country in the EU, has taken seriously the so-called Barcelona Goal of increasing total spending on research and development to 3% of GDP. At the same time the Austrian economy has managed to increase its innovation output significantly”.
The “Innovation indicator 2011” is published by the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung and the Federation of German Industry; it analyses a total of 26 countries worldwide.
