International companies value Austria as a business location
In the business year 2011 Austria’s national investment promotion company, ABA-Invest in Austria (Austrian Business Agency), was able to achieve an increase in the investment volumes of companies setting up business in Austria, with investment rising to EUR 296.2 million (+34%). A total of 1,822 new jobs were created (+31.8%). The number of international firms setting up in Austria amounted to 183, whereby industry-related services, tourism and life sciences were the strongest represented. The positive trend in research and development is particularly pleasing: 3 corporations moved their international research centres to Austria.
The most important investor by country was Germany with 71 companies setting up in Austria, followed by Italy with 16. CEE/SEE countries were strongly represented with a total of 41 businesses established, accounting for 22.5% of all ABA projects. And Asia also increased: 8 companies from Japan and 5 from China opened an office in Austria with the support of ABA.
Given the fact that ABA is currently working on 645 investment projects – from solar energy systems and automotive components through to logistics centres – Austria’s investment promotion company is positive about the future. The country continues to benefit from its role as a hub for Central and Eastern Europe, as well as its stable economic backdrop, qualified workforce, well-developed R&D infrastructure and the high quality of life.
