2015 Export awards winners: Austrian Airlines AG

Since 1994 the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy have been presenting Export Awards to Austrian companies for their exceptional success on international markets. This year the prize in the "Transport and Traffic" category went to Austrian Airlines AG.

Austrian Airlines launched its scheduled flight services in March 1958 with the Vienna – London route. Today the route network of Austrian Airlines includes around 130 destinations worldwide, of which 40 are in Central or Eastern Europe. Thanks to its favourable geographic location at the heart of Europe, the company's hub at Vienna International Airport is the ideal gateway between East and West.

Austrian Airlines is Austria's largest carrier. The company employs more than 6,000 staff, has a fleet of over 70 aircraft and generated revenue of EUR 2.1 bn in 2014. With recent figures showing 11.2 million passengers and around 68,000 tonnes of freight and post consignments per year, Austrian Airlines is also an important partner to the Austrian export industry. Almost 50% of the total value of Austrian exports leave the country on board a plane.

Austrian Airlines is part of the Lufthansa Group, Europe's largest airline association, and a member of the Star Alliance, the first global alliance of international arilines.
