2015 Export award winners: Infineon Technologies Austria AG

Since 1994 the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy have been presenting Export Awards to Austrian companies for their exceptional success on international markets. This year the special "Global Player Award" went to Infineon Technologies Austria AG.

Infineon Technologies Austria - founded in Villach in 1970 - has long been a leading innovator and has had a key impact on global developments in semiconductor technology. Infineon is a global leader, especially in its three core competencies of energy efficiency, transport and security. It's therefore hardly surprising that the world's best automotive companies draw on expertise from Villach.

At the same time Infineon is one of the most research-focused industrial companies in Austria: more than a third of the approx. 3,300 employees work in research and development and the company's research expenditure accounts for a whopping 25% of turnover.

A lot of things which are still being discussed as a vision for the future in other places under the phrase "Industry 4.0", have long been a reality at the Infineon site in Villach. Around EUR 290m will be invested in the site's expansion and 200 new high-tech jobs will be created by 2017. The "Pilot Space Industry 4.0" will form the heart of the building complex, where autonomous production will not be carried out under laboratory conditions, but will be developed and improved as part of the ongoing production process. Expectations are high: increasing productivity and achieving even better quality.

Every year the “Global Player Award” recognises companies which have achieved an exceptionally strong position on the global market, have a comprehensive international network and are also pioneers in an industry or country.
