Rupp driving forward with exports

The globally successful cheese producer is now managed by the third generation of the entrepreneurial family.

The passion for cheese runs deep in the Rupp  family. Even in the 1920s Rupp was already exporting Emmental to Italy, Belgium, North Africa and America. The foundations for today's success were then laid in the fifties, when Rupp started to develop its "Enzian Käsle" and other processed cheese delicacies into a successful brand. With 45,000 tonnes of cheese produced each year, the long-standing manufacturer has also become an Austrian market leader.

But for Rupp this is no reason whatsoever to rest on its laurels, after all, the market is becoming ever more fierce. Since Rupp has already ascended to the summit of its Austrian home market, growth needs to come from exports, whereby hard cheese and sliced cheeses are particular revenue drivers. Furthermore, there are plans to grow the own-brand production for industrial partners. Last year the family-run company generated around EUR 160m (+3%) revenue with a total of 550 staff.

85% of the cheese manufacturer's production is exported, a figure far higher than the 60% average for Austrian food producers. The company is undergoing particularly strong growth on the German market, even though this is known as the most ferocious food market in Europe. In addition to Germany, other European markets are also doing well. Rupp exports to 65 countries across the globe, supplying North Africa and the Middle East in addition to Germany, Italy and Great Britain.
