SunnyBAG harnesses the sun to provide mobile energy

Never be without power again – even on the move! Austrian firm SunnyBAG has turned this dream into reality with its innovative solar charging devices. The concept is working just as well abroad as at home in Austria, with the solar charges proving a real hit on the export market.

It all began with a student project on the problem of what to do when your mobile phone battery is flat and you have no access to a power socket, and ended in the founding of SunnyBAG GmbH in 2010. However, achieving international success took several years of research and investment in production and marketing. The company now develops, manufactures and markets elegant shoulder bags and rucksacks with integrated solar chargers. Light, flexible and waterproof solar panels and PowerTABs that are easy to take anywhere are available for travellers and fans of outdoor sports, so your camera or mobile phone will always have power – even in bad weather.

Sales of rucksacks and bags with integrated solar cells make up a good third of SunnyBAG’s turnover, but the firm has also been working on special solutions for partner companies – for example, KTM’s motocross riders will now be powering their helmet cameras and navigation units with solar energy at rallies. The company is also working with sports equipment manufacturer Northland to develop innovative products for lovers of the great outdoors.

The company’s work with aid organisations such as SOS Children’s Villages, Doctors without Borders, UNICEF and the WHO is yet another string to SunnyBAG’s bow – power generated by solar cells is often the only option to provide light or charge tech devices in areas with poorly developed infrastructure or in crisis zones.
