Lenzing is investing in new manufacturing capacity

The world’s largest fibre producer is set to concentrate its operations more closely on specialist fibres, with EUR 100 million to be invested in expanding production by 2018.

The Lenzing Group is expanding its production capacity for special fibres, with particular emphasis on two locations in Austria, although the company’s British factory in Grimsby is also to be developed. A total of EUR 100 million is to be invested, increasing capacity for special fibre production by 35,000 tons by mid 2018. The first 10,000 tons of additional capacity are set to be available for customer use this year.

One reason for this expansion is increasing global demand for high-quality special fibres, but Lenzing is also keen to further expand its leading position in these business segments. The aim of the strategy is to increase the proportion of special fibres in the company’s total turnover from its current 42% to 50% by 2020.

The Lenzing Group is based in Austria, with manufacturing plants in all important markets and a global network of sales and marketing offices. Lenzing supplies the global textile and non-wovens industry with top-quality botanical cellulose fibres, with the products available ranging from dissolving pulp through standard fibres to innovative special fibres.

With a 78-year track record in fibre production, Lenzing is the only manufacturer in the world to combine all three generations of cellulose fibres– from classic viscose through modal fibres to TENCEL® lyocell fibres – under one roof on a large scale. Special fibres are processed to make clothing, bed linen, hygiene products and towels.
