Geppert supplies turbines to Bhutan

Small-scale hydro power stations the world over are using the high quality equipment manufactured by this Austrian family firm.

Austrian family business Geppert has been designing, producing and installing turbines for hydro power stations and related equipment for some 120 years. These days, the company not only operates in Austria, but generates a large proportion of its turnover through export. In the 1990s, the company’s first major power station projects took it thousands of kilometres to Nepal and Bhutan, and Geppert’s specialist turbines are now in use around the world.

Geppert’s export quota now lies at around 70%, with over 4,000 hydro power plants fitted out worldwide. The company’s plants are in operation in countries including Italy, Greece, Turkey and Switzerland, the latter two being markets in which Geppert is particularly strong. The turbine manufacturer has also established itself in the Balkans – especially in Montenegro and Kosovo – and is beginning to make its mark in Southeast Asia and Latin America, having recently managed to secure a contract for two plants in Chile.

The firm’s core business consists of designing, manufacturing and installing water turbines. Geppert supplies turnkey electromechanical solutions for hydro power stations up to 20MW. It supplies and installs a range of turbine types and complete solutions tailored to the specific net head, nominal discharge and operating mode. The average power plant project takes some 8 to 15 months from planning through the acquisition of materials and manufacturing to delivery. Geppert also carries out servicing and renovation of older power plants.
