European EARTO 2016 Innovation Award for Semperit

The Semperit group has received the EARTO 2016 Innovation Award for developing Sempermed® Syntegra UV, the world’s first anti-allergenic surgical glove.

A combination of innovative production technology, a unique product and an energy-efficient manufacturing process saw Semperit and its development partner, the Polymer Competence Center Leoben (PCCL), see off competition from 35 other entrants to take home the EARTO 2016 European Innovation Award. Presented by the European Association of Research and Technology Organisation (EARTO), the award recognizes innovations of great social or economic benefit to the EU.

With Sempermed® Syntegra UV, Semperit and PCCL have managed to create a synthetic surgical glove that prevents allergic reactions by means of a photochemical process using UV light. This skin-friendly glove is the equal of any top-quality natural latex surgical glove in terms of sense of touch, comfort and pliability, but without the addition of allergenic chemicals. A further point in its favour is its energy-efficient manufacturing process, which uses a patented procedure.

Semperit AG Holding is a stock-marked listed international business group that develops, produces and markets highly specialised natural rubber products for the medical and industrial sectors in more than 100 countries. It employs some 7,000 staff at 22 manufacturing facilities and numerous sales offices across Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas, and recorded a turnover of EUR 915 million in the 2015 financial year.
