Exquisite fabric from Austria for the world of fashion

28. October 2015

A growing number of international fashion designers are relying on the high-quality merino fabrics produced by the Leichtfried cloth manufactory.

The history of the family-owned Austrian company dates back more than 130 years. Longstanding experience combined with exquisite craftsmanship and modern technology have made Tuchfabrik Leichtfried into what it is today – an exceptionally successful company whose top priority is always the high quality of its products. To ensure this quality, every production stage – from the fibres to the completed cloth – is carried out at a single location.

Loden has always been famous as the fabric for Trachten wear – traditional Austrian clothing. The family-run company has managed to produce loden which is even finer, lighter and softer. This has meant that the exquisite fabrics from the extra-fine wool of Australian merino sheep are being used more and more in fashion and haute couture. Many well-known European clothing companies and internationally renowned fashion houses such as Chanel, Saint Laurent and Vivienne Westwood trust in the quality of Leichtfried. What’s more, the fabrics are also being used in interior design with examples including curtains, headboards and menus.

In addition to Australian merino wool, Leichtfried also processes the finest premium fibres such as cashmere and Alpaca. The products are sold directly ex works, at fashion fairs and via a global network of distributors – particularly in Austria, Germany, France, Italy and Great Britain. The company has recently started supplying to the United States of America. Exports account for over 60% of revenue.
