Biomass and combustion technology from Austria for the global markets

5. November 2015

Technological leader POLYTECHNIK has become a global player in energy from biomass in the space of two generations and is now celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Austria’s industry is among the best in the world in producing biomass combustion plants and the family-run company Polytechnik Luft- und Feuerungstechnik stands out with its above-average growth rates. Starting out as a small firm with two employees, the company has grown into the global POLYTECHNIK Group in the past few decades.

Employees, customers and renowned guests from the worlds of politics and business came together to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary on 23 October. POLYTECHNIK has developed from a producer of suction and filter technology into one of the world’s leading providers of biomass combustion systems for generating heat and power. And expansion is still ongoing: there are plans to invest EUR 12m in European production sites by 2020 and the firm also has its sights set on new export markets. Almost all of the Group’s sales are generated outside of Austria.

There are more than 3,000 POLYTECHNIK systems currently in use across the globe – from New Zealand to Siberia. Customers include Europe’s largest aircraft manufacturer, as well Britain’s leading protein companies and Russian timber producers.

More than 240 employees work in the four production sites and at 15 engineering, distribution and service centres in Europe and four overseas bases. POLYTECHNIK invests up to 5% of its annual revenue in research and development to ensure that the firm remains at the cutting edge. What’s more, biomass plants make a key contribution to climate protection.
