Expo Milan 2015: Austria Pavilion honoured with a series of awards

17. November 2015

Austria scores a success and sweeps the board with prizes for its ‘forest’ pavilion.

The tally of success enjoyed by the Austrian contribution to the Universal Exposition at Milan is definitely something to write home about, with the Austria Pavilion and its impressively staged forest landscape attracting 2.4 million visitors. The unusual design concept, with its motto breathe.austria , also proved extremely popular at the highest industry levels and netted several awards.

The Austria Pavilion received a prize from the Italian Ministry for the Environment for its sustainable architecture and, in the final, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) awarded the Austria Pavilion’s display design the gold medal in the category for pavilions with a floor area under 2,000 square metres.

The Austria Pavilion was one of the public’s favourites from the very start. A wooded oasis with trees up to 12 metres high and sophisticated mist effects created a refreshing microclimate in the open-roofed pavilion as Austria focused on the theme of ‘air’ and cast a spotlight on its expertise in the fields of energy, technology and the environment. At the end of the Expo, the trees set off on their journey to reforestation projects in South Tyrol.

More than 145 countries presented their visions for the future of the planet at EXPO Milan over a six-month period. The exhibition, with its theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’ drew 21 million visitors from all over the world.
