Overview

The chemical industry is one of the largest industries in Austria. It is near the top in terms of production value and workforce. The attractive business environment, the proximity to the growth market of Eastern Europe and the excellent staff training all provide Austrian companies with an ideal base for research, development and production. Industry Info

The chemical industry accounts for around 11% of total production value. 8.2% of the industrial workforce is employed by the chemical industry. Most of the companies are medium sized and employ around 130 staff.

The legal body for the representation of interests in the chemical industry is the Association of the Austrian Chemical Industry (FCIO).

Top International Relations

Around two thirds of the total output is exported. Numerous companies have foreign-based offices across the world or operate as subsidiaries for multinational companies, taking on the role as headquarters for Central and Eastern Europe.
