Preparations are well underway for Linz, the capital of Upper Austria,  to become the "European Capital of Culture 2009". One project already in place is the pre-Christmas "World Crib Project".

In next year's European capital of culture, the project "Linz, the city of cribs" is already underway, for the seventh time in the run up to Christmas. What started as the idea to display traditional nativity scenes (cribs) in the shop windows of companies in Linz has developed into the idea of the "World Crib Project" - with the promotion of Linz as "The city of cribs". Visitors to the website www.weltkrippe.com can explore the world of cribs and nativity scenes starting from Linz, the city of cribs, and going from Antarctica to Zimbabwe. They can also upload crib scenes from their own communities onto the website and take part in the World Crib Project 2008. There is also exciting information on the origins of the fascinating city of cribs.

In the city of Linz visitors can see not only traditional nativity scenes, but also the "Star of Bethlehem", the crib of flowers in the Botanic Gardens and countless cribs in shop windows, with completely new scenes featured for the first time this year.
