Business Location Austria: Ranked 11th Globally

The World Competitiveness Yearbook 2007 concluded that Austria once again improved its overall competitiveness rating, now ranking the country 11th in the world, up from 13th place in 2006. The Lausanne, Switzerland based Institute for Management Development (IMD) evaluates the global competitive standing of a total of 55 countries each year according to 323 criteria. The study analyzes the “environment” in which companies can work, considering, above all, economic and political efficiency, infrastructure and economic developments. In Europe, only five countries are ranked ahead of Austria. Germany is ranked 16th , moving up nine notches from 25th place, whereas Italy and France are far behind.

Austria is ranked 1st globally in terms of the availability of qualified employees, the competence of top managers and company productivity. In terms of the competence of top managers, Austria moved up three notches to the number one spot, whereas it maintained its top ranking position in terms of the labor market. The Alpine Republic is rated 2nd globally when it comes to employee motivation and training.

Austria is also rated 1st in the world in terms of the efficiency of small and medium-sized companies, competition regulations, sustainable development, in two health care categories as well as its traditional leadership position in regards to quality of life.
