Austrian companies are in first line to upgrade Liepajas Metalurgs steel production as well as to construct a new rolling-mill. Headed by the Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagen (now Siemens VAI), a group of five foreign and three local companies will be active in this second step of upgrading Liepajas Metalurgs, which will last until 2010. Already the first step, a new continous casting machine, was delivered by Voest Alpine Industrieanlagen. Among the other consortial members is also the Austrian construction company Habau, a specialist in installing industrial plants.
