Austria among EU's most productive countries

According to the latest EU report on industrial policy Austria comes third out of the EU-27, following Ireland and the Netherlands.

In mid October the EU Commissioner for Industry, Antonio Tajani, presented a report on “Industrial policy: reinforcing competitiveness”. One finding was that Austria takes third place among the EU-27 in the workplace productivity per employee in the manufacturing sector, followed by Finland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Sweden and Germany. Ireland tops the table ahead of the Netherlands.

How business-friendly the different countries are was also evaluated in the report with Finland taking first place; with a score between 2.5 and 3.5 points Austria was in the second-best group of countries – together with the Netherlands, Ireland, Latvia, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Slovenia, Spain, Lithuania, Malta, Romania, France, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The most business-friendly country with the lowest administrative burdens is Luxemburg.

According to the Commission Austria is doing well in terms of economic competitiveness (place 19) and labour productivity (3rd place), positioning it well above the EU average.
