European Football Championship 2008 One joint visa for Austria and Switzerland 13. December 2007

EURO 2008 will be held from 7th to 29th June 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. The authorities of both countries want to make it easier for guests from all over the world to attend and are offering an efficient and service-oriented visa procedure to this end. The Austrian-issued Schengen visa will also be valid for entry to Switzerland.

A simplified visa procedure is planned for the duration of the European football championship. Austrian representations abroad can issue specially labelled "Euro 2008 visas", which, apart from being valid in the Schengen area, will also authorize their holders to enter Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. 

"Euro 2008 visas" can only be granted by Austrian Embassies and Consulates General. You can find a list of the Austrian representations and information about the entry requirements for the "Euro 2008 visa" on the website of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs .

In many states in which Austria does not have its own representation, Austria is represented in visa matters by a Schengen Partner State. The embassies of the Partner States, however, can only issue visas for the Schengen area, but not "Euro 2008 visas". Therefore, in such a case you will also need a Swiss visa to enter Switzerland.
