Austrian Business Climate Survey 2016

18. February 2016

AUSTRIAN EMBASSY COMMERCIAL SECTION PUBLISHES ANNUAL REPORT ON MACEDONIA'S BUSINESS CLIMATE

Fighting corruption, payment ethics and EU integration are the three most important business conditions. However, Macedonia does not pay serious attention to meeting them, says the conclusion of the survey conducted by the Austrian Embassy in Macedonia.  Austrian investors included in the survey said there was a gaping divide between business priorities and reality,

"The most important factor is political stability. It impacts the Austrian companies' long-term plans and planning safety.  A general remark is that although this year's results are worse than last year's, this survey is one more confirmation of the partnership between Macedonia and Austria and as a trusted partner we should sometimes tell the truth," said Gerhard Schlattl, Commercial Attaché at the Austrian Embassy.

Almost half of the Austrian companies have assessed the economic situation in Macedonia as unsatisfactory.  Most of them expect a similar situation in 2016, too.  Nevertheless, they point out the high score domestic contractors, workforce quality, and human resources availability have achieved.

Last year, 516 million euros entered Macedonia from Austria, making Austria Macedonia's second largest foreign investor.
