FDI in 2011

16. March 2012

 Austria still the biggest investor

Foreign direct investments of 303 million euros entered Macedonia last year, said the National Bank of Macedonia. The biggest investor in Macedonia is still Austria with 77.21 million euros, followed by the Netherlands with 77 million euros, Turkey with 75 million euros, Slovenia with 33 million euros and Sweden with 12 million euros. The reinvested profit of 47 million euros is part of the total FDI, too. The statistics of the National Bank show that 2011 closed with twice as much foreign investments as 2010.
The Macedonian Government is satisfied with last year’s results. For the director of the Office for Technological and Industrial Development Zones, Viktor Mizo, the statistics for 2011 reveal a dramatic increase in trust relative to 2010. In his view, we should expect the amount of FDI to continue rising considering the companies that started building in the free economic zones, such as Kemet and TeknoHose, will start bringing their machines over the coming months.
“No matter the crisis, we may expect new Greenfield investments in the first half of this year. This year we expect realization of a number of announced projects and new investments,” Mizo says.
