National Energy Globe Award 2012

The ENERGY GLOBE Award is today’s most prominent environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes
projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy and
utilize renewable or emission-free sources. The National Award Malaysia was given to: Centre for Environment, Technology & Development Malaysia, Mr. Anthony Tan.

The Center for Environment, Technology & Development, Mr. Anthony Tan,  received the National Energy Globe Award Malaysia for its outstanding green building project DDC House:

DDC Project was designed to encourage Malaysians to contribute to sustainable development by educating urban households about sustainable energy solutions and promoting renewable energy. A documentation & demonstration centre was establish in an urban double-story residential building which was renovated to include innovative features such as thermal insulation, utilisation of renewables and energy efficient fittings, to create a pioneering low-energy model house.

· The DDC House requires 33 per cent less electricity
· Affordability of electricity gives people no reason to save energy
· The project has a high potential for saving energy
· Workshops that teach how to save energy
· Long-term change in behavior helps save the environment
DDC was launched on 1st March 2004 and officially ended on 28th February 2007.

The reason of the jury: What is needed to rescue the world’s climate is solutions that are immediately, comprehensively and universally applicable, instead of those which only work for isolated problems. Packages of measures to reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of life.

AdvantageAustria Kuala Lumpur congratulates Mr. Anthony Tan for this sucess and hopes to witness more such environmentally friendly and sustainable projects.
