Kapsreiter and Grieskirchen breweries awarded gold medals at the international DLG (German Agricultural Society) quality competition 2008 for beer.

The DLG German Agricultural Society beer quality competition is known as the most thorough test in the world. And it is here, that two Upper Austrian breweries won their medals.  Kapsreiter (in German) won two gold medals for its "Kapsreiter Landbier hell" and the "Kapsreiter Stadtbräu". Grieskirchen (in German) brewery could also take home a "Gold DLG award 2008" for its "Grieskirchner Pils".

The requirement for taking part in the DLG competition is that the brewing meets the Germany Purity Law of 1516. The test consists of sensory and analytic stages. After blind tests, the beers are analysed in a laboratory and tested for foam stability, extract, alcohol and wort content, turbidity and shelf life.

Kapsreiter brewery was founded in 1590 and produces 22,355 hL per year. The company had a turnover of EUR 1.7 million in 2007, exports accounting for around 10%.

Grieskirchen brewery has been operating since 1708 and produces 54,574 hL per year.  Turnover in 2007 was EUR 4.3 million and the company's exports were 5%.
