An exquisite creation of biscuit, cocoa filling, coconut macaroon and chocolate – the Kokoskuppel by Auer-Blaschke from Spillern in Lower Austria has been sweetening up confectionery lovers since imperial times.

Sweet tooths all over the world have been titillated since the 1920s with this coconut delicacy. The refined macaroon produced by Lower Austrian company Auer Blaschke from Spillern counts as one of the best and most unique confectionery creations seen in Austria in the last 88 years.

The history of confectioner Auer Blaschke goes back to the k.u.k. Monarchy. Blaschke was founded as a small bakery in 1902. Since 1921 it has produced the original Blaschke Kokoskuppel – a unique macaroon creation – with a recipe that remains unchanged since 1921. Auer was formed in 1920 and merged with Blaschke in 1997. Ten years ago Auer Blaschke GmbH merged with the Dutch Continental Bakeries Group .In addition to the famous coconut macaroons, top products from the Auer Blaschke/Continental Bakeries Austria range include ice-cream wafers, filled wafers, cake slices, wafer rolls and hazelnut corners.

Major customers include the Rewe Group, Aldi/Hofer, Edeka, Metro and Spar. Last year the group generated revenues of EUR 310 million, of which the Austrian subsidiary accounted for around EUR 32.5 million in 2008. Auer Blaschke employs 75 staff; 50% of Austrian production is exported.
