EUR 60 million Netherlands incinerator order underlines AE&E energy from waste technology lead.
Following the start-up of a biomass plant in Moerdijk, AE&E Group GmbH (AE&E) — which constitutes the Plant Construction Division of the Vienna listed A-TEC Industries Group — has recorded a major success for its energy from waste technology in the Netherlands in November 2008. German subsidiary AE&E Lentjes has won a contract to build an incineration line for the ReststoffenEnergieCentrale (REC) plant in Harlingen. The facility, scheduled for commissioning in 2011, will process 230,000 tons of pretreated municipal solid waste per year and generate more than 90 MW thermal output. The client is Afvalsturing Friesland, a joint venture between 31 Frisian municipalities operating under the trade name Omrin. The total value of the order is about EUR 60 million.
“This is the fourth AE&E energy from waste project in the Netherlands, following the Moerdijk, Roosendaal and Delfzijl plants which are already under execution,“ said AE&E Group chief executive Georg Gasteiger. “In future our technology will permit the treatment of 1.1 million tonnes of waste in the Netherlands alone only taking into account these new capacities. This is further proof of AE&E’s energy from waste expertise and demonstrates the group's world leadership in modern incineration concepts.“
AE&E will be responsible for the lot 1 of the project, comprising the grate, boiler and balance of plant, including the engineering, procurement and all construction works. With an efficiency in excess of 80%, the plant will supply green energy to adjacent industries, and its state-of-the-art technologies will bring CO2 savings of some 140,000 tonnes/year (t/y) in the region. The engineering concept is based on a unique combination of AE&E's proven water cooled grate and highly efficient steam generator technologies for high calorific fuels. The facility's single incineration line will generate over 120 tonnes/hour of steam at 420°C and 87 bar, which will then be superheated to 460°C by an integrated gas burner system. The steam will be used by a neighbouring salt mine and other industrial consumers.
AE&E Group GmbH is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and is one of the leading international suppliers of systems for thermal power generation and environmental technologies. The Group’s product portfolio includes turnkey power plants, steam generators, flue gas cleaning systems, energy from waste plants, boiler pressure parts, coal gasification components, valves and services ranging from engineering and modernisation to modification and plant operation. The group employs some 5,000 people in Vienna and Graz (Austria), Zurich (Switzerland), Cologne, Ratingen and Nuremberg (Germany), Brno (Czech Republic), Paris (France), Bilbao (Spain), Slavonski Brod (Croatia), Moscow (Russia), Norcross (USA), Shanghai and Nanjing (China), Chennai (India), Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Sydney (Australia).
