The most successful products: Fruits and vegetables

From January to March 2010 Austria exported agricultural goods worth of 1,8 Billion Euros. In comparison, the exports of the first quarter 2011 accounted for 2,2 Billion Euros. The analysis shows, that Germany is still the most important export-partner of Austria. While the old EU-Countries are losing importance for the Austrian agricultural export, the new EU-Countries and Asian countries are prosperous markets for Austrian companies. With a share of 19 and 23 percent, the new EU-countries and Non-European countries already play an important role in the Austrian agricultural export and are expected to get even more important in the future.

The export of fruits and vegetables increased more than 30 percent in the first quarter of 2011. The highest demand of these products was noticed in Germany and Hungary. The meat market was also able to increase its exports; especially the pork market with a growth of 20 percent. One of the major importers of Austrian pork was Japan and South Korea. Furthermore the cheese export increased by 14 percent and the meat products/preparations gained 10 percent.
