In September 2003, Oslo Sporveier chose Siemens Transportation Systems as their partner for the  new modern metro cars for the city of Oslo. They were awarded a contract to supply 33 new three-car trains. Production of the trains takes place in Siemens’ Vienna plant. The complete train design was developed and coordinated by Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See (Austria).

The train itself comprises three motorcars, which are made of aluminium. The driver’s cab includes air conditioning, a driver’s seat with integrated functions and an ergonomic desk with monitors to provide a positive and safe working environment. A front evacuation door augments the safety of the passengers in case of emergency.

The delivery of the trains will start by the end of 2005 with a pre-series of two trains, which will undergo extensive trials for winter operation under real conditions.
