At a presentation in Salzburg, the U.S. multinational company General Electric (GE) focused on its wind energy plans and the advantages of digital electricity networks. It was not a coincidence that Austria was selected to be the location of its kick-off event, according to Luis Maria Pérez and Georg Knoth, the heads of General Electric Europe. “Austria is well-known around the world as an environmental pioneer, and our subsidiary Jenbacher serves as the Group competence center for decentralized electricity generation”, said the two GE representatives.

GE, which is the global market and technology leader along with Siemens and ABB, is strongly relying on the gas engine manufacturer Jenbacher in Tyrol. Since GE acquired the company eight years ago, the Americans have invested EUR 130 million in Jenbacher, thus quadrupling revenues. The latest development introduced by Jenbacher is a 9.5 MW gas turbine with 90% electricity efficiency, which is designed to complement wind and solar energy farms.
